The last eight years have been an amazing journey not only in my personal life but also in the crafting of E&L. I've learned much about myself in the process of writing these novels. Each book acts like a mirror of sorts as I read back over them and discuss the story with others. There's nothing quite like it. Of course the Scripture acts as a mirror that shows us our need for a Savior. James 1 tells us this but I'd expect nothing less from the Word of the Lord. It's another thing entirely to realize just how sure I am about a given topic after reading my own words aloud to myself. One understands oneself better by reading one's own words.
The books have enjoyed modest success in the south east, where I'm from, due in part to the touring and popularity of Sleepy Turtles and in part to the schools that have adopted E&L into their curriculum. On occasion I am approached by one of my students who ask, "When will the next book be available?!" To which I tell them all about the process of writing the current installment and the challenges that come with it: being a full time husband, father, pastor and teacher...to name the more important things. It's usually an eye-opening conversation that ends in disappointment: "The book is not quite finished, er…sorry."
Finally, finally, finally I can say that Book Three will soon be released. I won't say much more but I will add that the cover to the third installment might be different than you might expect but all to familiar for anyone whose been reading for a while.
More to come and soon,
